Q1 Focus: Taking healthy breaks at work

Many employees are not taking enough breaks throughout their workday. Mounting evidence suggests that prolonged sitting and not taking breaks may be as dangerous to your health as smoking. Not taking breaks can lead to fatigue, decreased productivity, and increased stress levels. Taking breaks throughout the workday can help employees to avoid these problems and improve their overall wellbeing and productivity. Breaks can be used to:

  • Get up and move around
  • Stretch
  • Take a few minutes to relax and clear your head
  • Eat a healthy snack
  • Socialize with coworkers

To help employees build the habit of taking regular healthy breaks throughout their workday: move, rest & disconnect

Objectives

  • Increase awareness of the importance of taking breaks
  • Provide resources to help employees understand what is a good healthy break
  • Encourage employees to take regular breaks throughout the day together
  • Increase employee engagement and morale

Key Initiatives through the Reaction Club app

Team Challenges can be created in minutes but we recommend having 7-10 days to promote the challenge and have everyone join. (We recommend choosing 1-2)

Squat Challenge – Squats can be a great way to take active breaks without leaving the office. Through a fun team challenge, you can motivate employees to incorporate squat breaks into their workday routine. The challenge will leverage Reaction Club’s new computer vision technology with an AI coach that guides employees in correct squat techniques and counts their repetitions. On the app’s leaderboard, employees can track their achievements and draw inspiration from their colleagues to improve. You can customize the challenge duration, but we recommend choosing between 7, 21, or 30 days. Additionally, we suggest allocating a budget of $500 to $1500 for rewards (gift cards), which participants can redeem for their active participation and social engagement. Learn more

Breathing Crew – Learning to take breathing breaks can be a fantastic way to relax, disconnect, and rejuvenate. When done together, it becomes a more enjoyable and motivating experience. Utilizing the Reaction Club platform, you can organize a breathing activity for your team. The app will guide employees on correct breathing techniques and showcase their activity levels on a leaderboard, fostering inspiration and motivation. We recommend running this activity for 14, 21, or 30 days and allocating a budget of $500 to $1500 for rewards (gift cards). Participants can earn these rewards for their active participation and for supporting their colleagues’ progress. Learn more.

Weekly Lunch Break Walk – Schedule a virtual or in-person lunch break walk on the Reaction Club app to encourage people to take a social walking break together. Whether it’s a 20-minute walk to the coffee shop or a virtual activity where each employee walks independently but not alone, it provides a refreshing break in the day. Employees will earn points for showing up and we recommend adding $300 to $500 as a rewards budget to keep them motivated and engaged.

The session, led by an expert in the field, would help you increase awareness of the topic and provide employees with the tools required to build better healthy break habits. Our recommendation is to schedule the session just before or right after a lunch break or in the evening where employees can invite their families to join:
